Dante Fowler sits atop the new faces in Dallas

All we heard last offseason was about Jerry Jones going all in, and how he was not going to let another season slip away in a playoff defeat. We all knew that he was just blowing smoke and that was not going to happen.

After another disappointing season, a lot due to injuries, here we are again, hoping that the front office would load up this roster maybe for a one-or two-year run, and yet, despite plenty of cap space, they have signed guys for cheap.

With that said, I did like a few of the moves they made, but still think they could have done way better, like adding another guy next to CeeDee Lamb. Still, I wanted to rank the top three moves this team made this offseason thus far.

Before we start re-signing, Osa Odighizuwa is not on this list since he was already a Dallas Cowboys player. This was clearly the best move they made, but it was not a new player.

Dante Fowler

Bringing back Dante Fowler has been afar and away the best move this football team made this offseason.

He signed a one year, $8 million dollar deal, the most they have spent on a free agent since they signed Greg Hardy.

The signing of Fowler is the best external free agent signing Dallas has made up to this point in the offseason.

The 2015 NFL Draft third overall pick led the NFC runner-up Washington Commanders with 10.5 sacks in 2024, the second-highest total of his nine-year NFL career.

Fowler actually suited up with Dallas in 2023 before following Dan Quinn to Washington last offseason.

He’s a nice pass rush replacement for DeMarcus Lawrence at 30-years-old.

This was a much-needed signing after the departures of Lawrence to the Seattle Seahawks and Chauncey Golston to the New York Giants.

Jack Sanborn

Jack Sanborn was my favorite move before they signed Fowler. He signed a one-year deal. I have not seen the full details of the deal just yet.

New Dallas defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus was his coach in Chicago last season.

Dallas linebackers coach Dave Borgonzi was also Sanborn’s linebackers coach in Chicago.

He’s a nice depth signing with DeMarvion Overshown recovering from the second torn ACL of his career.

Sanborn will compete with 2022 fifth-round pick Damone Clark to start at linebacker alongside Marist Liufau.

Kenneth Murray

I only put him next because I think the rest of the moves they made are bad. Either of the running backs they signed can carry the load, Parris Campbell won’t be on the team when they start the year and the other guys are just as bad.

A two years, $15.5 million (entering final year of deal in 2025 after being acquired via trade with Tennessee Titans along with a 2025 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick)

Dallas needs bodies at the linebacker position, but the Cowboys likely gave the Titans a pick for a player they were eventually going to cut at some point in this offseason.

Murray, who is 26 years old and has five seasons of NFL experience, was the 23rd overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma by the Los Angeles Chargers.

He has started 53 of his 59 games played in Los Angeles from 2020 to 2023 before signing a two-year, $15.5 million contract with the Tennessee Titans in free agency last offseason.

Look I think the signing of Fowler and Sanborn are going to be good ones this season, but the rest of the moves thus far just don’t spark my interest.

They better hope they hit on this draft in April, and please for the love of everything go sign Keenan Allen or Tyler Lockett and get him next to CeeDee Lamb.
