Marquez up for Laureus Comeback of the Year Award

Marc Marquez can now add another trophy to his collection.

The Spanish champion has been nominated for the prestigious Laureus award in the “Comeback of the Year” category.

The reason for the nomination was stated as:

Spanish motorcyclist Marc Márquez’s win in the Aragon Grand Prix ended his 1,000-day drought after an arm injury in 2020 that required four operations and led him to contemplate his retirement.

This is the 5th time Marquez has been listed among the nominees for the award, but he won it only once, in 2014, in the “Breakthrough of the Year” category.

Among riders, only Marc and Valentino Rossi have managed to take home the Laureus.

The Doctor did so three times in the following categories: 2026 in the “Spirit of the Sport”,  2011 in the “Comeback of the Year”, and 2022 in the “Sporting Icon”.

Marquez is among 6 nominees for the award. The others include Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade, US swimmer Caeleb Dressel, Swiss skier Lara Gut-Behrami, Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant, and Australian swimmer Ariarne Titmus.

The award ceremony will be held on April 21st in Madrid.
